The Open Education Course, developed part of E³UDRES² – Ent-r-e-novators ean overview of the principles and practices of Open Innovation. It develops participants’ understanding of collaborative innovation models, innovation ecosystems, networking strategies, challenge-driven problem solving, and the use of open data and citizen science as enablers of innovation. Participants also explore case studies from SMEs, academia, and civil society, and learn to evaluate the impact of open innovation practices while anticipating risks and future trends.
Competencies:
Aligned with the Digital Competence Framework (DigComp 2.2), this course contributes to Communication & Collaboration and Problem Solving competencies, focusing on co-creation, networking, and responsible innovation practices.
Additionally, aligned with the European Competence Framework for Researchers (ResearchComp), this course contributes to competencies such as Making an Impact (engage in collaborative innovation with multiple stakeholders), Working with Others (contribute to open and participatory innovation projects), Managing Research Tools (use data, platforms, and networks for innovation), and Taking Responsibility (apply ethics, risk management, and sustainability principles in open innovation).
Outcomes: On completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Explain the principles and models of Open Innovation.
Map and navigate innovation ecosystems (startups, incubators, accelerators, clusters, hubs).
Identify and define real-world challenges and apply design thinking to generate solutions.
Analyse case studies of Open Innovation in SMEs, academia, and civil society.
Evaluate the impact of open innovation on organisational performance and ecosystems.
Anticipate and manage challenges, risks, and ethical considerations.
Reflect on future trends in Open Innovation, including AI, FAIR data, and citizen science participation.
Activities:
Learners engage with key resources and case studies, practice challenge framing and ideation methods, map innovation ecosystems, analyse SME and research case studies, contribute to peer discussions, and complete quizzes.
Time to complete the course:
This course is designed for 13 hours of online learning activities, finalised with a quizz and earns 0.5 ECTS credits. After you have completed all the activities, you will be able to earn the badge, issued as a micro-credential.
