Teresa Costa holds a PhD in Management and completed a postdoctoral programme in Entrepreneurship and Social Capital in Tourism at the University of São Paulo. She develops her academic and scientific work at the intersection of tourism governance, entrepreneurship ecosystems, innovation and digital transformation. She is
currently a Coordinating Professor in the Department of Economics and Management at the Business School of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, an integrated researcher at CIEQV, and an associate researcher at CiTUR, where she is also involved in scientific governance structures. She also served as Editor-in-Chief of the
European Journal of Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation between 2018 and 2021. Her trajectory is distinguished by the consistent articulation of research, teaching, scientific leadership and project coordination, with a particular focus on how complex decisions are structured, legitimised and operationalised in multi-actor
settings. Her research agenda centres on the relationships between governance, innovation, sustainability, networks, social capital and entrepreneurship, with particular application to tourism and territorial development processes. Her scientific output demonstrates sustained international engagement, with articles published in
leading indexed journals, including ABS-ranked journals such as the Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development and the Journal of Business Economics and Management, as well as other relevant international journals, including Global Business Review, International Journal of Knowledge-Based Development, Tourism
& Management Studies, Journal of Tourism and Services, Cogent Business & Management and Investigaciones Turísticas. This body of work is complemented by book chapters, the co-editing of international handbooks and e-books, and active participation in academic and scientific networks. In the field of applied and
competitive research, she has coordinated and participated in several projects funded by national and international bodies. Most notably, she is the Principal Investigator of the SHIFT – Sustainability-oriented, Highly Interactive, and Innovation-based Framework for Tourism Marketing project (FCT), alongside other
projects funded by FCT, the European Union, PDSE/CAPES, IPS/CiTUR, and initiatives under the PRR /NextGenerationEU, focusing on entrepreneurship, innovation, social capital, networks and governance. Her work therefore reflects a solid trajectory in the production of scientifically robust and socially relevant
knowledge, oriented towards the development of models, frameworks and decision-support tools for complex organisational and territorial contexts.
